Alternative fuels
In alternative fuels power plants, electricity is generated by burning substitute fuels. Statkraft operates an alternative fuels power plant in Landesbergen, Germany.
In addition to scrap wood we use high calorific value, non-recyclable waste from households, industry, and commerce in our alternative fuels power plant. Where possible, Statkraft favours fuels that are lower in pollutants and CO₂. The biogenic proportion of substitute fuels is approx. 20 to >85%, which is almost as high as that of waste wood in some cases. Higher biogenic fractions are preferably used to reduce CO₂ emissions and the resulting costs.
The emissions resulting from the combustion are subject to the limits specified in the operating licence in accordance with Section 17 of the German Federal Immission Control Act and are cleaned. Compliance with the limit values is regularly monitored by an independent expert.
